SS 409 Plate Steel

409 is a 12% chromium, titanium stabilised ferritic stainless steel. It has fair resistance to corrosion and oxidation at high temperatures. In the annealed condition 409 is ductile, does not work harden and can be formed using a variety of roll forming, bending or mild pressing/ stamping operations. 409 is resistant to stress corrosion cracking but has limited weldablity.

With small additions of nickel to improve corrosion resistance and toughness even in welded condition, 409Ni (409NiCb) is a low-chromium columbium-stabilized ferritic stainless steel.It is not as high-temperature oxidation or resistant to corrosion as the higher alloyed stainless steels (for example 304SS or 430 SS)/409Ni is ductile and does not harden to any appreciable extent by cold working.
